Esoteric Kent - What is it with Canterbury?
Earlier this year, I gave a talk about Esoteric Kent and I thought you may like a crash course into this esoteric part of the isle from the Tarot, The Sea and Me Retreat...
What follows is notes, not beautifully written up - enjoy!
Of course, in Kent we have Canterbury, the centre of Catholicism in the United Kingdom and incredibly important in the world today. It’s a beautiful place. I absolutely recommend that you check it out if you have time and inclination. You’ll find these beautiful statues to Queen Bertha and King Ethelbert. Queen Bertha is standing looking towards the spires of the cathedral, whereas Ethelbert has his back to the cathedral, but is welcoming His wife with open arms. King Ethelbert was a pagan king and said ‘I can't desert my ancestral gods’. But good man he maybe was, he supported his wife in these endeavors and in building up Canterbury.
But even just to walk around Canterbury, it's a funny city. There isn't it's not a big city there is in the centre of industry and employment, but it's certainly very beautiful. Many say that ley lines cross in the city of Canterbury, and you could believe it, these energy lines, which something that's quite a new fascination of mine. Of course, they cross in a place that's so very important, perhaps even underneath Canterbury Cathedral, a spot that has rocked the world with circumstances such as Thomas Beckett's murder in 1170 and modern things happening in the Catholic Church today.
(READER : I was told at this retreat that there’s an energy vortex in the Sainsbury’s Carpark, want to investigate with me?)
Outside of the cathedral in Canterbury, you'll find some really interesting spots. St Martin's is the first Christian church in the English-speaking world, and this was Queen Bertha's church, so she founded the church there, on top of Roman remains, because Canterbury is a Roman city
We already have layers and layers of things going on in Kent and to understand them more fully would be a life's work.
So instead, I like to explore them on more of a pop history culture perspective, and dip into things that I find interesting and tidbits like flicking through an encyclopedia or a TV channel, just to find interesting things that just make life more interesting and worth exploring.
Elsewhere in Kent, we have what's called the megalithic Medway. Medway being a part of Kent around a river which sort of looks into London. And in the Medway, we find a series of Neolithic stones - Kits Coty dates back to 2500 BC when migration to Britain took place.
Kent's countryside is littered with these whispers of the past and nods to esoteric happenings. You know, there might be a car park over there, but who's to say that it wasn't a ritualistic site based on ley lines in the past?
And in the the case of Sainsbury’s it is the case!

So many thoughts on Canterbury. Lovely looking, not much to do unless you're a student or coming for a one-off day out. Culture? Very little. Excitement? Next to none. Personality? If you count vape shops and bubble tea shops, then yes. Snobbery? Maybe that's just me...
